Saints Lauded for 2008 Season
April 25, 2008
The Siena men's basketball team traveled from the Siena campus to downtown Albany aboard an Albany Aqua Duck Friday afternoon to celebrate its 2008 MAAC Championship and NCAA First Round win over Vanderbilt. The Saints enjoyed a tour of the city that included a splash down in the Corning Preserve and brief boat tour. Students and fans cheered as the vessel made its way from the Siena Chapel to a press conference at Times Union Center. At City Hall, several dignitaries joined the caravan, among them Albany mayor Hon. Gerald Jennings and Albany County Executive Michael Breslin. "The City of Albany and the entire Capital Region are extremely proud of the Siena Saints, and I join in offering my congratulations on the hard work and dedication of players and staff which resulted in earning the MAAC championship and being an NCAA tournament participant," said Jennings. "Coach McCaffrey and President Mullen are to be commended for their commitment to developing true student-athletes." "Albany County is extremely proud of our Siena Saints. They had an impressive run and a remarkable season, making this one of the most successful teams in the college's history. Under Fran McCaffery's leadership, the Siena Saints elevated their level of play and we look forward to seeing what they can do next year," said Breslin. The team enjoyed a festive ride back to campus dancing to music played on the Aqua Duck PA.
