Siena Shortstop Headed to the Cape
June 4, 2002 LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Following a strong sophomore season, Siena's Blake Hanan (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenedehowa) has been offered a spot with the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod Collegiate baseball league. Hanan and the A's begin play at home on June 14. The 5-9 local product finished 2002 third on the team with a .320 batting average. Hanan led the Saints with 20 stolen bases and was second on team with 43 runs scored. The Saints shortstop joins a long line of Siena standouts who have been afforded the once in a lifetime opportunity. The most recent Siena player to play in the Cape was Todd Donovan. Donovan was selected by the San Deigo Padres in the eight round of the 1999 Major League Baseball First Year Player's Draft. While in 'the Cape' (summer of '98), he was selected MVP of the all-star game after a sensational summer with Cotuit. Donovan is currently stationed with the Padres' Double A affiliate in Mobile, Ala. Widely recognized as the premier collegiate baseball showcase, the Cape Cod Collegiate Baseball League will provide Hanan the chance to exhibit his skills before countless major league scouts.
Those wishing to keep pace with Hanan's progress can either visit SienaSaints.com, where Hanan will keep an on-line bi-weekly diary, or visit the Chatam A's home page at chathamas.com
